Fast Tracks

I have had some turnouts on my layout for somtime now say a year or so and they are just now starting one at a time to break at the throw bar soldering points. I have just re soldered the PC tie and points back in place for now, but was wondring for the future when I build the BIG ONE (Layout that is) How I can avoid this.
Its not such a big deal on the small 2x8 foot switcher I have now but boy could this be a problem in the future. I'm using tortise switchs to throw the points. I thought maybe some spikes into the PC tie to hold the points?

I have the same problem as well, I suspect my tortoise are putting to much pressure on the points but if any one has any idea on how to reinforce the points im all ears

Hi,

If the wire in the Tortoise is too large (larger than about .037") excessive stress can be put on the points causing failure.

Another thing to look for is that you can't see any noticeable twisting of the points when the turnout is operated. If the throwbar tie is soldered in place carefully, when the points move it should appear to "sweep" left and right. If any twisting can be seen, over time the solder joints may fail.
