I was wondering if there is a preferred style of wiring for the Fast Tracks turnouts. I have just completed my first turnout, and am wondering if there is a "best" way of wiring the turnout for smooth short free operation. I am using "tortoise"switch machines. Anyone have some thoughts? Since posting this I have done some research on my own and thanks to Wiring for DCC.com have answered the questions that I had. I guess I already had the equiment I needed, I just had to find out how to use it. The turnout jigs are first rate.

I was having trouble making the tortoise make the points go all the way to the closed position. Finally what I was able to figure out was to buy thicker wire. For example, I think what came with it was .025 so I bought .033 and .045 (I think). Now the points go all the way!

I have found that the wire that comes with a Tortoise machine is too small for most applications. Fortunately it is easy to replace with larger wire. I also find that in most cases .033 wire works well, occasionally I will go to the next size, which is .045"
