Fast Tracks

What rail size are people using who have a lot of older equipment? I had used Shinohara track on my layout of 12 years ago, but haven't had a layout since 1996. I've continued to collect and periodically run a loop of Unitrack on the floor, and everthing works ok on that, but it's not what I want for a layout. I just saw the ad in MR for Fast-Track and it looks like what I want to use, but I do want to make the best choice.

Older equipment diesel locomotives are all Atlas & Kato. I have multiples of RS-3, RS11, early GP38, & GP50, first run SD7&9, U25 and F3&F7. To change all the wheelsets would be expensive.

I have a first run Con-Cor GN S2 4-8-4 and a Trix 4-6-2 which will be the most problematical. I would like to run these, but can get along without them if necessary.

I hand lay code 55. All my kadee cars with the pizza cutters run fine on it. So should your Atlas/lifelike diesels. It even rides over my hinged point connection. Sometimes I can feel a very slight bump on the point rail, but its not an issue. Its only one rail, the bump is so ever slight, no wheel lifting was observed. I shape the wire connection so its a bevel from the top down, and file as much as I can without reducing the wire too much.
On the minitrix steam, you on your own, the flanges are quite large, I sold my pacific a few years ago, although I still have the 060 I don't know if the flanges are the same depth. I give it a test when I get the chance. But my first impressions is that they might be able to run on the code 55 hand layed turnouts. if you're handlaying track,
then virtually all loco's and old stock will run on c 40.
if you go to atlas c55 or ME c 40, then there is the problem of hitting the spike heads.
if you want to be on the safe side...you could go with handlaid c55...it will most definitely run everything
