Is it possible to make 'normal' turnouts with the three-way jig?
The short answer is "sort of"....
When designing the 3-Way turnout fixtures, and also the dual gauge fixtures, I was trying to keep the original turnout design intact so it would be more versatile. This worked for the dual gauge fixtures, but I could not do this with the 3 way fixtures.
I say sort of because the rail centerlines are exactly the same as the regular turnout, but I had to move the location of the PC board ties to accommodate the isolation gaps in the PC board ties and in the rail. You can use this fixture to build a regular turnout, just placing the PC board ties only where you deem it necessary, but the completed turnout will not match up with the printable tie template, or the QuickSticks laser cut ties. If you intend on placing individual wood ties, there is no reason I can see why this will not work.
I don't mention this on the site as it would just be too confusing to have two versions of the tie templates and QuickSticks available.
Hope this helps,
