To the Experts,

Question #1: I would like to cross over a double track mainline using 3" on centers for S-Gauge Code 148 track using #6 turnouts and #8 turnouts (using ROW code 148 rail). I do not want to use double slip turnouts

For example, the right side mainline would use a #6 lefthand turnout then cross over the left main such that there would be a diverging secondary double mainline (the left side of the original mainline would just use a #6 left hand turnout). Would the crossing use a 14 degree or 19 degree for the #6 turnouts? What degree crossing would be used if I did this with # 8 turnouts.

Question #2: What crossings would I use for the same scenarios above using #6 or #8 Ys? Thanks...trying to figure out what templates to order.

Well, I printed your templates out in S scale, a #6 turnout, #8 turnout, 19 degree crossing and a 30 degree crossing. I readily determined that neither of those crossings will allow a #6 or #8 turnout to cross over a parallel main that is 3" on center. So I have imagine that a lesser degree crossing, say a 14 or 10 degree may be in order. I notice that you do not have tie templates for either, but your crossing jig order does allow you to order a 14 degree. So, I think I will attempt to get a protractor and trace some angles to find out.

The rules of geometry will state that the angle of the crossing on the main will equal the angle of the turnout. So a #6 turnout having a 9 degree frog angle, a 9 degree crossing would be required, a #8 would be 7 degrees.

For a #6 you should be ok with this size of a crossing, but a #8 would be a source of trouble, and in this situation a double slip switch would be a better alternative.

The smallest crossing we currently offer is a 14 degree, but smaller ones can be produced as well. Contact me via email for details.
