Since I am having so much fun playing with the benefits of N scale I thought I would make a small
micro layout using all code 40 rail and some of the new N scale goodies I am currently working on.
I decided to post the progress on this forum to get a bit of feedback on the new products we are developing for the N, Nn3 and Z crowd.
The initial tests came out excellent, but I made a few minor changes to the designs and want to use them a bit to see how it all works out.
This little layout will measure only 8" x 37", and will be built on a foam, using Woodland Scenics roadbed glued in place.
I already built 3 #8 code 40 turnouts, and using these I laid out a simple trackplan. This was sketched onto the foam and the roadbed glued in place with white glue.
Carpenters glue is rubbed onto the bottom of Woodland Scenics N scale roadbed
Pins hold everything in place while the glue sets up. I eyeballed down the length of roadbed to ensure the geometry is what I was looking for.
All the roadbed is in place, waiting for ties.
Using the QuickSticks as a guide, I located and cut clearance in the roadbed for the turnout throwbar. I marked the location of the turnout by poking a hole through the styrofoam sheet, this will make placing the switch machines easier.
I glued down one of the QuickSticks, and using a straight edge located and glued the second QuickSticks, this way everything will line up when completed.
It is best to locate and place the turnouts (or at least the QuickSticks) first, and work in the crossties afterward relative to the location of the turnouts.
