Hello

I am planning on ordering a proto 87 #10 turnout.

Just curious if anyone else has ordered one. I am worried about putting the wrong custom deminsions in on the order. I know I will need to do additional filing of the rails in the frog area to allow for the tighter fit.

If anybody has any advice please help.

I custom ordered a special FINE scale set of turnout fixtures.

I cut out the frog area and install one of Andy's frogs.

I then fit the guardrails carefully with a gage and filed base.

The fixture makes up good (RP3-S3.1) style FINE standards and can also be used for the P87 with modification replacement of the frog.

I'll look up my 'custom' specifications that I had Tim make if you want to persue this approach. Otherwise you need to specifiy the gage at MIN (0.649") with allowance for gage widening only at 0.008", and the flangeway MAX at 0.023" for Tim to set the fixture correctly. NOTE: with these specifications all will be VERY dependent on the rail size you choose and the supplier of the rail. Send Tim a short (1"-2") snip of your rail (especially if you use something other than ME rail). You will still need to solder up the turnout using a gage and not rely solely on the fixture.
