Great looking stuff Ron, you guys are amazing. Do you have a picture of a pinwheel ladder made with the new curved turnouts??

I'm thinking about design with a double track helix and curved crossovers inside the helix. Maybe even turnouts to the outside, kind of like spider legs. I have E shaped benchwork and want to put the helix in the center of the E. Then the branches out of the helix can go down the legs of the E on multiple levels. Do you have a recommended combination of the curved turnouts/geometry for doing curved crossovers. Maybe 24" outside radius and maybe 22" or 21-1/2" inside radius. Also maybe 22" outside radius.

Doing a curved crossover with fixture built turnouts will be difficult. Working out the dimensions required for this would require drawing the entire crossover from scratch to get the sizing. The best way to do this would be to print out a variety of templates and see what looks best, but it will be hard to get an exact match.

Using a curveable TwistTie will give better results and flow properly with the geometry needed, but are a bit tricker to use. And if this is inside a helix, it will likely be unaccessible for maintenance.

If I wanted crossovers in a helix I think I'd make the helix oval and put the crossovers on the straight legs, or maybe make it flat only on one side and put them there (same with the spider legs). I think that curved crossovers in a helix has got to be asking for trouble. Besides, it would be a shame to make such works or art, and then hide them!

Tim and Ron, love the new curved turnouts, but why haven't you updated the web page to show or talk about them.
