Fast Tracks

while scrutinizing my layout plan, i realised...
much to my dismay...
that i will have to put back the entrance of a tunnel by about 6-9 inches.
this, unfortunately, results in a rather uncomfortable instance of having a bridge (which i intend to be a trestle) crossing over another bridge (which i also intend to be a trestle)....

so my question is....
has anyone seen of a trestle crossing another trestle?
how would i go about constructing this? (structurally... i intend to scratch build everything)
also, a picture or a schematic of this would, of course, be most appreciated.

Can you simply build them as independent structures, or are they parallel? A crossing wouldn't even be all that uncommon, but you'd need to build some kind of truss bridge where the upper one crossed over the lower one. It would be rather dramatic, in fact.

the bridges will end up crossing at just about 90 deg.
but i'll have to look at how the angles work out...
maybe if i can change it a little...it will have a better effect.

i still haven't been able to find a pic of such a crossover, but your right...
the upper bridge will need a truss...
i'm thinking (since i have the room between the bridges) to maybe make it a "under" truss...

There is a famous crossing in Virginia I think, by the coast, where the Seaboard crosses the Southern crossing a stream (I think those are the RR). I will look around and see if I can find it. The location was used by company photographers many times.

I found it. I thought is was two bridges crossing a stream but it is three railroads crossing at different elevations, two of which are on bridges.

Those steel bridges look like autoracks and other high cars would have a tough time getting through

funny thing is, if you built this on a model railroad nobody would think it was believable.

I have this picture in a book that shows that it still existed in the 70's but Im not sure if this location is still around, if it is I'm sure that nothing is going through the middle section, it looks like the first car on the train is either a 40 or 50 box car and it about to remove the roof walk the fast way.
