I'm ready to order a kit to start replacing my Atlas code 55 turnouts. However, I have two crossovers I would like to replace with double crossovers.

Looking at the tie templates, it looks like the double turnouts have a track spacing of 1 1/8". My present layout has 1 1/4" between centers, and it looks like standard Fast Track turnouts cut flush with the end of the template leave 1` 1/4" between centers.

I know I can trim standard turnouts so there is 1 1/8" between centers, and I can tweak my ral so that it diverges to 1 1/8" between centers, but am I missing something here?

I originally used 1 1/4" because that accomodated Atlas turnouts and curve radii, but is 1 1/8" a standard?

N scale 'standards' for track centerlines.

NMRA module recommended practices has parallel track center lines at 1-1/2".

NMRA Standard S8 has centerlines based on curvature and class of equipment:

Nominal (finger handling spacing) 1-3/16"
Absolute Tangent 1-1/32"
10 degree (43" radius) 1-3/32" (class I)
20 degree (21-1/2" radius) 1-5/32" (class I)
30 degree (14-1/2" radius) 1-1/4" (class I)
40 degree (11" radius) 1-7/32" (class II only)

A LOT depends on the turnouts number and the length of the straight center portion of the crossing.
