Fast Tracks

What do most layouts have,#6 or #8 turnouts?How much more space will the #8's take up?I mostly use six axle diesels and passenger cars.My layout room is large(25x30)and I would prefer the #8.I am going to purchase a fast tracks kit and like to keep the cost down and only buy one.

For 6 axle motive and passenger equipment I would STRONGLY recommend you go with the number 8. My own layout uses number 9 minimum off the main and number 7 absolute minimum anywhere else. I have some number 12s and two number 14s. They DO TAKE A LOT OF SPACE! A number 8 will take up nearly twice the space of a number 6, but with a large layout room, you'll appreciate the operational appearance and the reliability.

I suspect that most layouts use the number 6 - most are restricted with available space and most modelers want to get as much trackwork as can reasonably be fitted into their space. I prefer a large scenery to track ratio and want the extra smoothness of the larger - longer - and less problematical higher numbered turnouts.
