Fast Tracks

Can anyone tell me a good trackplanning software to use to plan my next layout, and if they have files for the Fast Tracks switches and crossings?

I recommend 3rd Planit. I have been using it for years. Look at www.trackplanning.com

I use 3rd planit. I am working on making a Fast Tracks library right now, but I'm a bit short on spare time right now. 3rdplanit turnout parameters cannot be modified enough to get a direct match to the Fast Tracks turnout shapes. The Fast Tracks turnouts appear to have more of a spline interpolation to them. The models that I am making inside 3rdplanit are short little line segments that follow the Fast Tracks shape pretty close to exact. With some creative layering inside 3pi, you can make it work like a turnout by switching layers. I'll post them when I get done with them.

There is a Free Track planning software package out there called XTRKCad. There is a group over on Yahoo that is very helpful in using and explaining the features of the software. For the price it's hard to beat and there are many parameter files that have already been done although I don't believe one has been done for Fast Tracks yet.

this is my first post.

For track planning I am still using a very old version of Winrail, 3.1, designed for Windows 3.1 (it works perfectly with both Win 2000 and XP), and with track libraries redesigned by myself: it's more than enough, IMHO.

For FastTrack I have built several libraries based on NMRA dimensional data, and enriched with both straight and curved track needed to ensure stuff like parallel joints, straight and curved compensations, curves with round angle values ecc. ecc.

Dan, I have bought 3rd Planit, last week, and I have been able to rebuild all the turnouts, slips and crossings by using software components and parameters, with the exception of curved ones: I still need to better understand software turnout parameters.

I have got in touch with Randy Pfeiffer in order to have some explanation about his software, and perhaps I am going to achieve this last goal too.
