after building about 18 turnouts I noticed that the portion in the middle where the rail pokes out from the inside has worn thin and its thin enough to make it flimsy enough to bend but only a small portion of it.

Now im wondering while filing down rail over time will the tool adjust itself with the filing to keep on making accurate points and frogs?

Tim is taking a week off this week, so I will take a stab at answering your question. When you are using the tool, you should try to file across the entire face to avoid wearing the just the middle part. If the center is worn down, you can 'dress' the tool by filing the whole face flat again, but that may take a bit of effort.

Overall this type of wear should have no effect on the results.

If it makes you feel any better, I've done about 20 # 5's with my tool and the turnouts are still coming out great. I'd even say, even better then when the tool was new.
