Building a Duel Gauge 14 Degree Crossing

After a week of working with the Fast Tracks Tie and Rail templates I was
able to construct an 14 degree Duel Gauge crossing with 18 Point Sets and
almost double the amount of PC Board Ties as a standard gauge or a
narrow Gauge crossing would need. I now see why Duel Gauge crossing
fixtures haven't been offered yet by "Fast Tracks"
I think they would need to construct 4 Fixtures for each different crossing.
Until they do make them I think I should be able to build each one that I'll
need by using The old fashion way when and where I find a use for one.
But then again if "Fast Tracks" builds a few HO/HOn3 Duel Gauge fixtures
or offers them I'll be in line to buy at least one of each of them.
If not for the Two Duel gauge fixtures That I Bought and built a couple of
each I would have never even considered trying to build a Crossing in
Duel Gauge.

Now for the really fun part of figuring out where & how to wire it. I did
use my jewelers saw and cut many isolation sections, I believe will be
correct. I can always just leave it as a completely dead un-wired section
and push the engines through by hand. Hay it worked 50 years ago with
my old wooden train set LOL.

well back to the test bench for now and loving every minute of it.

That sounds similar to what I would like to include in my HO/HOn30 layout at some stage. Do you have any pics?

sorry my digital camera is on the fritz but I will post photos as soon as I
get the camera back.

the way I started the project was,

first down load all the free Fast Track tie templates and print a copy of each.
then take an HO template and tack it to a flat solid piece of 1/4 thick plywood as a roadbed
I started with a 14 Degree HO scale crossing.

next take a matching 14 degree HOn3 crossing printout and carefully
cut out and off all the ties leaving only the rails and match it over the
HO crossing printout you have tacked to the plywood to the side of the
crossing need the narrow gauge track on use your pliobond adhesive
(I buy mine at ACE Hardware stores or Fast Tracks sells it on line I
don't remember the price at either) and apply a lite coat to the entire
bottom side of the HOn3 cutout and paste it to the HO template.

From this its a craftsman style handlaid track like the old days before
Fast Tracks made life easy, almost all the ties are PC board in fact all
but 1 is on each end.

This takes a bit of Time cutting and filing everything to match and you will be drilling,nailing and soldering the track to the ties. Just take your time
and you will be surprised at how easy it is and how hard all at the same time.
