sam,

Kappler and Mt. Albert supply sugar pine true scale cut ties in various lengths. ME ties are different, but I've not had any in over a decade to compare to at the present. Campbell also makes ties, these are decidely of early prototype - smaller and not avaialable in anything but 8' lengths.

Good clear sugar pine makes excellent grain and strenght for ties. Basswood is also avaialable from Northeastern and some handlayers to prefer basswood.

You will have to get some samples and try what works best for you.

I estimate I have about 5 pounds of coupler springs somewhere in the vicinity of my workbench.

i am kinda concerned about the "texture" the ties will show after being colored/weathered,

Do you have a better photo of these tie plates?

John Butler (!empty($user->lang['WROTE'])) ? $user->lang['WROTE'] : ucwords(strtolower(str_replace('_', ' ', 'WROTE'))):
This is a picture on the Alkem Scale Models code 55 tie plates. They do not make any switch detail type of plates. The groove fits the ME code 55 rail base quite well. I do not have any of the code 40 switch tie plates. That is why they were not used.
